Silsako lake in Guwahati, Assam is a natural wetland surrounded by areas namely Satgoan, Vip road, Hengrabari Junior College. Till 2005, this lake is a natural habitat of many fish, birds and other aquatic small animals like crab, snail, snake. Its act as a natural water purifier, water reservoir, in addition to the beauty to the adjoining places. Guwahati as a gateway of north east and the development work as a major metro city in India leads to many illegal occupancy by people in forest areas, in wetlands, and in government lands. Silsako lake is the most affected area in guwahati in terms of its shrinkage in area wise, illegal encroachment of wetland areas for residential purpose by people: some even build buildings for renting purpose(commercial activities), garbage dumping.
